I’m Ernie, and if you’re as enamored with ham radio as I am, you’re going to find out that HamHive is where passion meets the frequency. You can catch me at hamhive.com, where I share my journey and connect with fellow radio enthusiasts worldwide. Think of HamHive not just as a brand, but as a community where we all tune into the same love for ham radios.
Ham radio isn’t my first rodeo with long-haul communications. I spent years as a truckdriver, always on the lookout for the camaraderie that crackles over the CB radio. But now, retired from the highways, I’ve hung my hat on the peg of the amateur radio world, excited about the endless connections it presents.
Family comes first for me, and after 42 wonderful years of marriage and raising six incredible kids, the chatter at home sometimes rivals the busiest airwaves. My wife and our 16 grandkids fill our rural homestead with life, laughter, and love. We value our close bonds and treasure the moments we spend together, surrounded by the simplicity and beauty of our acreage, 30 miles from the closest town.
When I’m not on the radio or with family, you’ll find me outdoors. Whether I’m out hunting, fishing, or tending to our garden, the call of the wild is just as appealing as the call of the airwaves. And let’s not forget our small family of animals! Our chickens, pigs, cows, and the loyal companionship of our dogs and cats complete our rural idyll.
My love for radio is rooted deep in my childhood memories; nights spent huddled over a little transistor radio, a not-so-clear station from Oklahoma being my only companion in the quiet darkness. Over time, this fascination only grew, helping me stay connected during the long stretches on the road.
Last year, I finally realized my dream – I got my Technician’s license in ham radio. I’m currently hitting the books for my General license because I’ve learned this isn’t just about talking; it’s about reaching out and touching lives across the globe. I want to invite you into this adventure, into the real freedom of speech through the airwaves.
